Part of the rigid-flex circuit board resource.
Minimum line width, hole size, or layer count means little without the construction. Copper weight, material system, total thickness, layer type, and yield expectations can change what a manufacturing process supports. This page is a review checklist; no unverified maximum layer count or minimum feature is advertised as a production guarantee.
Separate geometry from acceptance
Your drawing should distinguish nominal dimensions, tolerance limits, and inspection methods. Identify the dimensions that locate rigid islands inside the enclosure, the flex lengths that control folding, and the edges that interact with fixtures or connectors. Do not tighten every dimension simply because a drawing tool allows more decimal places.
List electrical requirements explicitly
Record netlist test expectations, impedance targets and tolerance, coupon location, and any high-voltage or current constraints. Ask whether impedance control is specified independently in rigid and flexible regions. A change to coverlay or the reference plane can change the electrical behavior even when the track artwork stays the same.
Request evidence for the proposed process
Ask for the reviewed stackup, DFM responses, an inspection plan, traceability scope, and the partner’s relevant certifications if your procurement process requires them. Verify the issuing entity and scope. Industry names on a web page are not evidence that a given manufacturing site is approved for your product.
Prepare an actionable capability request
Include the released files or clearly mark the design as preliminary. Provide quantities, assembly needs, operating environment, and the reason behind any unusual tolerance. If the partner proposes a substitution, review its effect on bend behavior, impedance, assembly, and reliability before approving it.
