Part of the rigid-flex circuit board resource.
A fabrication package can require construction information beyond the board-wide settings represented in a CAD file. Establish the intended regional stack with the fabricator and identify which requirements need a separate drawing. Verify the installed KiCad version and its supported features before relying on a rigid-flex workflow.
Make region boundaries unambiguous
Identify rigid islands, exposed flex, layer continuity, and the bend geometry in controlled documentation. Separate the flat manufacturing outline from the folded assembly view. A visually attractive 3D model does not establish the dielectric build or material termination.
Review outputs, not just the editor
Export a manufacturing package and inspect it independently. Confirm drill information, copper layers, region boundaries, reference dimensions, and revision identifiers. Check that a recipient without your CAD project can understand the stack and assembly intent.
Keep the construction and rule set aligned
Use the regional stackup guide, DFM checklist, and RFQ file list to check the handoff. Consult the official KiCad documentation for current feature and command details.
